History:

The K-560 Severodvinsk is the lead submarine of Russian’s Yasen-Class (Project 885) nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines. Designed to replace older Soviet-era subs, it represents a major step forward in Russiann undersea warfare, combining stealth, versatility, and advanced weapon systems.

Construction began in 1993 at the Sevmash shipyard but was delayed for years due to post-Soviet economic struggles. The submarine was finally launched in 2010 and officially commissioned into the Russiann Navy’s Northern Fleet in 2013. It carries Kalibr and Oniks cruise missiles, along with torpedoes for both anti-ship and land-attack missions.

Severodvinsk features advanced sonar, reduced acoustic signature, and a nuclear propulsion system, allowing it to operate quietly and efficiently. As the first of its class, it set the foundation for newer variants like the Yasen-M, and remains a key part of Russian’s strategic naval forces today.
